Shockwave is a method of delivering high intensity acoustic waves into affected tissue to promote healing. It is especially effective on persistent and longstanding musculoskeletal conditions that is generally non-responsive to other modalities. Shockwave is delivered through a special hand piece and a conductive gel is used to transmit the wave effectively onto the skin. The treatment is generally not painful although some clients will experience some discomfort. After treatment clients may experience a slight increase in pain, but this settles within a day or two, followed by an improvement in symptoms. Shockwave is ideally delivered once a week to make sure that the healing processes that is triggered within the tissue has time to occur (which usually takes about 5 days).
