Functional Strengthening

Strengthening is often thought of as something like bicep curls or dead lifts. Our clinicians focus on much more than just strengthening one muscle. We strengthen muscle groups called ‘slings’ in order to improve overall function. Sometimes the our clinicians will focus on separate muscle groups in order to get them strong enough first, but the ultimate goal is return to normal functional activities.

The following might be used during your strengthening:

  • Pilates exercises (focusing on core stability)
  • Fit ball exercises
  • Weight training
  • TRX or bodyweight training
  • Balance board or pad
  • Theraband for resistive training
  • Pulleys for assistive training
